Shanghai – Zig Zag Productions has won the ‘Best New Format’ award at the 4th annual China TV Formats competition for its gladiatorial-themed Ancient Games format. The awards event takes place as part of China Formats, the two-day event designed to stimulate business between the Chinese formats industry and the international content business. China Formats is hosted by Shanghai TV Festival and 3C Media.
The awards took the form of a live pitch session before a panel of Chinese and international judges. Zig Zag wins development funding and an all-expenses paid trip to MIPFormats 2018 in Cannes.
Ancient Games is an epic sports competition and battle series that will see one super-fit modern-day athlete crowned winner. Over the course of 8 action-packed episodes, 8 famous former athletes compete in challenges, games and disciplines from the Ancient world. The stars will battle each other in 17 different ancient sporting disciplines and live in the ‘Ancient Games’ Camp, where they dress, eat, and sleep exactly as the competitors would have over 2000 years ago.
Celebrating the win at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Shanghai were Zig Zag CEO Danny Fenton and Commercial Director Matt Graff.
Commenting on the win, Danny Fenton said “It’s fantastic for Ancient Games to be recognised in this way, and we’re delighted to run out winners – particularly as we were the only international finalist in the competition”.
