Hong Kong – Turner Asia Pacific has confirmed the acquisition of upcoming fantasy-drama series Goblin for its Korean entertainment channel Oh!K. Debuting on December 3, within 24 hours of its premiere in Korea, the series stars Gong Yoo, one of the most popular Korean actors who recently starred in the runaway big-screen success Train to Busan. Now, in his first small-screen role in four years, Gong Yoo plays a goblin looking for a human bride to end his immortality.
Lee Dong Wook (Hotel King) also joins the star-studded cast, as a grim reaper with amnesia. The goblin’s love interest is portrayed by Kim Go Eun, who recently won the Best New TV Actress gong at the Paeksang Arts Awards. The series is written by Kim Eun Sook, responsible for the hugely successful series The Heirs and Descendants of the Sun, and is directed by Lee Eung Bok who also directed the latter.
Marianne Lee, Turner’s VP of General Entertainment Content, said: “Throughout 2016, Oh!K has gone from strength to strength – becoming home to the very best in Korean entertainment. Series such as W-Two Worlds, Shopaholic Louis and the ever-popular variety show Infinite Challenge have recently been real rating winners for the channel.”
“Now with the acquisition of Goblin, Oh!K has secured one of the highest-profile dramas of the year. It has an eye-catching cast with a hugely-talented production crew, and Korean drama fans are in for a real treat,” she added. It will air on Saturdays and Sundays on the channel at 7pm from December 3.
Turner acquired all rights for the series from the production house Studio Dragon in seven markets, Hong Kong, Macau, Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. In addition to Goblin, Turner also holds full syndication and broadcast rights for the drama Saimdang, across all platforms in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei, which will debut early next year.
