Singapore – CBeebies has won big at the 2016 BAFTA Children’s Awards, clinching one of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ most coveted prizes for children’s programming which is the’ Channel of the Year’ award. Reclaiming its 2013 crown, the BBC pre-school brand beat out other nominated kids’ channels including Cartoon Network and CBBC, its fellow BBC brand that’s aimed at older children aged six to 12.
CBeebies was also further recognised for its pre-school offerings, with Hey Duggee named Pre-School Animation of the year. Narrated by BAFTA-winning comedian Alexander Armstrong, the animated series featuring Duggee the pooch and his after-school club bagged the win in a category that also saw fellow CBeebies programmes Go Jetters, Sarah & Duck and Clangers as nominees. Hey Duggee, Go Jetters and Sarah & Duck are available on CBeebies (StarHub Channel 303) and the new BBC Player, while Clangers will premiere on CBeebies in December.
Other CBeebies wins include Topsy and Tim for the Pre-School Live Action category, for which Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures and Teletubbies – both showing on CBeebies – were also nominated. In total, BBC clinched 13 Children’s BAFTAs – two-thirds of the categories they entered. In Asia, CBeebies is available in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar. There are also branded blocks in South Korea on KBS Kids and in Japan on Kids Station.
