Beverly Hills, Calif. – Gene George, EVP of Worldwide Distribution at Starz announced that the STARZ Original Series The White Princess and Insomnia headline the new programming Starz will bring for buyers at MIPCOM 2016 in October at Cannes, France.
The White Princess is a limited series of the same name and part of The Cousins’ War book series from the international bestselling author Philippa Gregory. The White Princess was produced by Company Pictures in association with Playground Entertainment follows in the footsteps of the Golden Globe and Emmy award-nominated STARZ Miniseries The White Queen from Company Pictures and Playground, which STARZ premiered in 2013 and continues to distribute around the world. The White Princess is filming on location in Bristol, UK and will air on STARZ in 2017. Starz retains all domestic and international multiplatform rights including television, home entertainment, and digital.
Insomnia is an 8-episode hour-long dramatic action series from Producer/Director Slava N. Jakovelff and Michael Ohoven and stars, Shaun Sipos, Dylan Everett, Pasha Lychnikoff, and introducing Alex Jay. Insomnia focuses on a deadly annual game forcing strangers to play with their lives at stake. Twenty contestants must kill or be killed set against the intriguing backdrop of Moscow, Russia. All contestants have been injected with a poison, if they fall asleep, they die. The winner gets the antidote and a new life. This first season is a closed-book story, where the winner is decided in the final eighth episode. However, this series is intended to be a multi-season program where in each season the game will be played in a different city with different characters. Starz acquired the series for all worldwide rights (excluding North America) from Well Done Productions.
