London – A ground-breaking and life-affirming format created by Ulrik Jørgensen, Head of Programmes at Nordisk Film TV, a Banijay Group company, Something Special, is to be made into local versions across the Nordic region ahead of its MIP-TV launch.
The inspirational reality format Something Special, which sees a group of young athletes follow their dreams at the Special Olympics in Los Angeles, has been picked up by TV2 Denmark, TV2 Norway and TV4 Sweden. Each of these versions will be produced by Nordisk Film TV production companies. Negotiations are also underway with other territories keen to air their own local adaptions.
“We are proud to follow these passionate athletes on their exciting journey to the Special Olympics in Los Angeles. I am sure that the viewers will be inspired as well as motivated by these true heroes,” said Jakob Hansson, Acting Head of Commissioning TV4 Sweden.
Emmanuelle Namiech, Managing Director at Banijay International, commented, “Something Special is a truly special format and we’re delighted that countries across the Nordic region have ordered their own version. This touching and surprising show proves that everything is possible and we are sure it will have unique appeal to the international market when we launch the format next month in Cannes.”
Eight intellectually disabled “sport heroes” have been selected to participate in the Special Olympics in Los Angeles. From their preparations to their big games we follow this fantastic journey against prejudices. As they fight for medals, they’ll prove that they can overcome all the obstacles with nothing but courage. An inspirational and life-affirming series with sensitive and touching stories as well as lots of humour and joy.
