Beta Film picks up worldwide rights to the psycho-thriller series The Valley – In the Mist of Silence, an original production of the Pay-channel TNT Serie exclusively for the German speaking market. The show, shot in the vine valleys in South-Western Germany, is produced by Bantry Bay Productions (Gerda Mueller/Jan Kromschroeder) and Twenty Four 9 Films (Philipp Steffens) with Anke Greifeneder as TNT Serie’s Executive Producer and will run fall 2015 on TNT Serie in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
After the successful and multiple awarded original series Add a Friend with Ken Duken, The Valley – In the Mist of Silence is only the second original production of TNT Serie, the series-channel of Turner Broadcasting System Deutschland, which reaches six million households in the German speaking territory. Just recently, Sky Germany announced its move into original productions, announcing the Beta Film/ARD/Sky-crime series Babylon Berlin, directed by Tom Tykwer, which is currently in pre-production.
It is a misty autumn day in the vine yard, as a man, who cannot remember his name, wakes up near the corpse of a young woman, hanging in the harvested grapes. The male lead, played by Friedrich Muecke, delves as a stranger into the microcosm of an uncanny town and its inhabitants, who apparently hide a secret. The plot twists and turns unpredictably like the dark waters of the nearby river, itself the ever-present reminder that change and stability often reside within one and the same entity. Nothing is as it seems, and at the end of each episode, all is different from before.
Also starring are Antje Traue (Men of Steel, The Seventh Son) and Gudrun Landgrebe (Rossini), directors are Till Franzen and Jan Martin Scharf, who also co-writes together with Arne Nolting (Scharf/Nolting: The Last Cop). The Valley – In the Mist of Silence is produced by Bantry Bay Productions in co-production with Twenty Four 9 Films for TNT Serie.
Beta Film presented first images of the series at MIPTV in Cannes.
