Australian channel SBS and the Vienna based production and distribution house Terra Mater Factual Studios ink a pre-sale deal for the brand new three-parter Richard Hammond’s Wildest Weather. Produced by Terra Mater Factual Studios and Oxford Scientific Films in co-production with BBC and in association with Hamster’s Wheel and PAAN, the production centred on presenter Richard Hammond takes a look at some of the most terrifying big weather on the planet. Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service already secured the rights for the three-part forerunner Richard Hammond’s Miracles of Nature last year.
Moreover, 18 additional hours of programming are being acquired by SBS as part of a volume deal, including TMFS’ landmark natural history series Brazil – A Natural History, Sri Lanka – Paradise in the Indian Ocean and Wild Canada. It is safe to say that TMFS will have a very strong presence in Australia as a result.
Peter Andrews, Head of Network Programming SBS Television, was pleased with the deal, “SBS is Australia’s most unique broadcaster, bringing audiences the best in international content. We are delighted to have agreed to this package of titles from leading factual supplier Terra Mater Factual Studios and are excited to be bringing Richard Hammond’s Wildest Weather to SBS in 2015 with many other titles to follow.”
Sabine Holzer, responsible for TMFS’ documentary output, said, “SBS turns out to be an excellent partner in bringing our blue-chip programmes in the fields of wildlife and nature, science and history onto Australian screens and I’m looking forward to a long-lasting relationship.”
Furthermore, the Australian channel also takes care of the home video exploitation of several of TMFS’ programmes in the territories of Australia and New Zealand alike. “It is an important step for Terra Mater Factual Studios to be represented in the home entertainment market in this territory as well”, she added.
