The 5 Show

Singapore – Come January 2015, viewers can expect a fresh “Local Upsize” line up on the new Channel 5 that will celebrate the Singapore identity and connect more closely with Singapore families than ever. A flagship MediaCorp free-to-air channel, Channel 5 aims to be the number one English channel of choice for all Singaporeans by increasing local content across genres. Viewers can expect more quality local productions, from drama, variety, comedy, current affairs to infotainment and telemovies. Catering to viewers’ dynamic lifestyles and viewing preferences, the re-launched Channel 5 will target viewers from all ages and walks of life.

Key changes to the channel will include:

• Launch of The 5 Show – a daily topical magazine programme every weeknight that will discuss issues close to the hearts of Singaporeans

• News 5 will move to a more accessible time at 9pm, presented by Otelli Edwards

• Continual development of local talent as Channel 5 goes on a search for the next biggest star in a new reality series The 5 Search

• Introduction of a long-running local serial drama for the first time on Channel 5. Launching in mid-2015, it will feature local and regional artistes and weave in social issues relevant to all

• Increase in local current affairs and Infotainment shows that will get viewers thinking and talking about the hottest topics in Singapore like On The Red Dot, Talking Point, Common Cents and Body & Soul through more engaging formats

The 5 Search

“Channel 5 is a channel for all Singaporeans. The new 5 is a bigger commitment to local content and a huge move forward to being more relevant to our viewers and customers. Many of our viewers have grown up with us over the years and the channel has become an integral part of their lives. With these changes we want to deepen our engagement with our loyal viewers and welcome new viewers to Channel 5,” said Bernard Lim, Managing Director of MediaCorp TV.

“Viewers should also expect even higher quality content. We have made a real commitment there and engaged international consultants behind successful shows like Malcolm in the Middle, The Academy Awards and Entertainment Tonight. They will share invaluable perspectives to producing key shows like The 5 Show, The 5 Search and the upcoming long-form drama,” added Lim. “As we continue tapping and developing the local talent pool, we are delighted to announce that Chua Enlai, a homegrown talent and Asian Television Award recipient, has signed on as a MediaCorp artiste, managed by Fly Entertainment.”

Chua Enlai will be one of the anchor hosts of The 5 Show, together with Yasmine Cheng, another fan favourite from Class95FM. Enlai will also star in the new season of The Noose in 2015.

With a brand new song entitled “Good To Be Home”, composed by local musician Tay Kewei, viewers can look out for a music video featuring local artistes who will be appearing on Channel 5.
