Gilat Satcom adopts Novelsat NS3

November 20, 2014 by TVA Editor

Gilat Satcom announced that it is now using Novelsat NS3 to increase capacity from its newly launched POP in Maryland on the east coast of the U.S.

The new POP was established to answer Africa’s growing demand for international broadband connectivity.

NovelSat NS3 is a high-end efficiency satellite transmission software package that runs on the NovelSat NS3000 satellite modems in the POP. NovelSat NS3 typically increases spectral efficiency by up to 30% compared with the DVB-S2 satellite industry standard. This enables the Africa-U.S. satellite link to carry more data.

Using NovelSat NS3, Gilat Satcom has also been able to achieve modulation levels of 64APSK compared to industry averages of 16APSK to 32APSK.

Ofer Doron, VP Engineering & Operations at Gilat Satcom, said, “We are constantly evaluating our satcom systems to find innovative ways to increase capacity and meet the market demand for lower pricing. Traffic on our networks is at its highest level ever and will only increase in the future. We are investing a lot of time and resources in our engineering efforts to ensure that we provide our customers with reliable high-quality broadband services with excellent QoS.”

Dan Peleg, NovelSat VP R&D added, “Gilat Satcom immediately saw how NovelSat NS3 could improve the service it provides to customers. Satellite bandwidth availability and costs continue to pose significant challenges for many providers. However, Gilat Satcom continues to innovate and adopt the latest technologies to increase bandwidth and drive down costs.”

Gilat Satcom’s satellite service is complemented by a growing number of fibre routes in coastal and landlocked Africa. Gilat Satcom is amongst the first companies in Africa to offer both non-stop East to West coast-to-coast and international connectivity. Its MPLS network connects to both the WACS, EASSy and SEACOM undersea cables via fibre local loops across Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia and reaches the most remote areas of the continent.

Its customers include telcos, ISPs, Governments and businesses that require fast and reliable broadband connectivity at a highly competitive price.
