Toronto, Canada – Tricon Films & Television has announced the international launch of WE tv’s first original scripted drama The Divide (8 x 60’), produced by AMC Studios, written by the Academy® Award and Emmy® Award nominated Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra, The Fisher King, Water for Elephants, The Ref, The Bridges of Madison County) and co-created by LaGravenese and Tony Goldwyn (Conviction, Justified, Damages, Dexter, A Walk on the Moon). Series star Marin Ireland will be in attendance at MIPTV. The Divide will make its U.S. premiere on WE tv in July 2014.
The Divide
The Divide follows an impassioned caseworker with The Innocence Initiative, Christine Rosa, (Marin Ireland: Homeland, Boss, Side Effects) as she delves into the case of a death row inmate, whom she believes was wrongly convicted of a young family’s heinous murder 11 years earlier. As she chases down new evidence in her search for the truth, Christine confronts an equally passionate district attorney, Adam Page, (Damon Gupton: The Newsroom, Prime Suspect), whose view of justice is coloured by shades of gray. Adam’s actions put a strain on his marriage to Billie Page, (Nia Long: The Best Man Holiday, House of Lies), a powerhouse corporate attorney at a crossroads in her personal and professional life. Throughout the journey, Christine and Adam’s pasts resurface as they are faced with the question of one man’s guilt or innocence intertwined with their own personal histories.
The series also stars Paul Schneider (Water for Elephants, Family Stone) as Clarke Rylance, an old law school buddy of Adam and Billie’s who chooses a different path signing on with The Innocence Initiative; Joe Anderson (Across the Universe, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2) as Terry Kucik who is sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of the Butler family as a young teen and Clark Peters (The Wire, Treme) as Isaiah, Adam’s father and Police Commissioner of Philadelphia.
LaGravenese and Goldwyn executive produce The Divide along with Emmy® Award winner John Tinker (The Practice, Chicago Hope) who serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series, and Andrew Sugerman (Shopgirl, Conviction) as co-executive producer.
