London – Banijay International is bringing a new entertainment format to MIPCOM. Mentor will have its world premiere in the biggest primetime slot on DR1, formerly home to Danish X-Factor, on August 30, 2013. Mentor is a live primetime eight-episode entertainment series, where the professional coaches risk being voted off.
Mentor was developed by Danish musician and television personality Thomas Blachman in co-operation with Nordic production company Nordisk Film TV, part of the Banijay Group. Blachman has drawn both on his own experience as a mentor and judge on previous award-winning television entertainment shows such as X-Factor and Idol.
Karoline Spodsberg, Managing Director of Banijay International said, “Mentor really is the next generation talent show. It turns our expectations for talent formats on their head, as for the first time the viewers send the Mentors – not the amateurs – home.”
“It’s remarkable for a broadcaster to take a risk like this, putting a brand new entertainment format into the biggest slot of the week, and DR and Nordisk deserve so much credit for taking this completely new idea and turning it into one of the most exciting new entertainment formats of the last few years. At the same time it’s rare for a distributor to have the opportunity to present a brand new, game-changing idea like this one so we’re honoured and excited to be bringing Mentor to MIPCOM.” Spodsberg said.
