Zodiak Rights, the international division of Zodiak Media has announced that entertainment format You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me from German Production Company I & U TV Productions has been commissioned by China’s Guangxi Satellite TV for a ten-part primetime series.
Zodiak Rights acquired the kids’ talent show following its success in Germany where it was ARD’s highest rated Saturday night show upon launch, attracting 5.75 million viewers, an increase of 60% on the slot average.
The agreement was brokered by Naomi Koh, VP of Sales at Zodiak Rights. You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me will premiere on Guangxi on August 9, 2013 reaching a potential audience of 800 million. Primetime slots have also been secured for the show regionally where it will air every Saturday and Sunday night on Jiangxi City Channel, Henan City Channel, Hubei Synthetic Channel and Dalian TV.
Commenting on today’s agreement, Barnaby Shingleton, Head of Entertainment, Zodiak Rights comments: “For Zodiak Rights, the launch of You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me on Guangxi is doubly exciting; not only does this build on our existing business in the territory, it is also great to see this fantastic family format produced as a series following its huge success in Germany. Watching kids achieve extraordinary things is always great entertainment, but having them compete head-to-head with adults makes their accomplishments even more impressive. You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me is a primetime talent show with real heart, and we are confident Chinese viewers will warm to it as much as German audiences have.”
Tina Yang, VP and Format Center Director, Shixi Media said: “Guangxi and all the regional channels are excited about the launch of the show and feel confident that You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me will become a primetime favourite. It is a fresh and entertaining format to the Chinese TV market and a great fit for the summer holiday season when kids and families will be watching together.”
Mr Song Weilin, the channel controller of Guangxi Satellite TV added: “It is a good format and we are happy to get it commissioned. We are expecting a ratings hit!”
