The Arqiva British Academy Television Awards 2013 were announced at an awards ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall on May 12, 2013. Here are some highlights:
Comedy Twenty Twelve clinched the award for the Situation Comedy category with the mockumentary’s Olivia Colman earning a nod in the Female Performance In A Comedy category, beating her co-star Jessica Hynes. Popular reality series Made In Chelsea clinched the award in the Reality and Constructed Factual category while The Great British Bake Off earned the Features award for the second time in a row. Graham Norton of The Graham Norton Show lost to Alan Carr of Alan Carr: Chatty Man for Entertainment Performance but won in the Entertainment Programme category. Also, Channel 4’s coverage of The London 2012 Paralympic Games won the Sports & Live Event category, beating The London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony: Isle of Wonder, The London 2012 Olympics: Super Saturday and Wimbledon 2012 – Men’s Final.
Additionally, The Radio Time Audience Award – the only award voted for by the public – was won by Game of Thrones. The Fellowship, the highest accolade the Academy can bestow, was presented to Michael Palin in recognition of his outstanding and exceptional contribution to television.
