The annual ATA Superpitch held last Thursday, December 6 at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel saw a total of 37 entries from producers across 10 nations. The event is a platform for content makers to pitch their programmes across three genres; Children/preschool, Formats and Documentary to key decision makers.
Best Documentary pitch went to Coastwatchers of The South Pacific by Execam Ltd, New Zealand. Coastwatchers of the South Pacific is the untold story of a secret intelligence network of volunteers who stationed in secret across the Pacific Islands to spy on Japanese troop movements during the second world war. Best Formats pitch was given to Hot Guards by Fly Entertainment Pte Ltd, Singapore. Hot guards is a reality-competition series that will see babes and hunks duke it out in a series of lifeguard challenges at an exotic beach location in Asia. Best Children/Preschool pitch went to Naraka Adventure by Nada Anime, Taiwan; an animation series that tells of the adventures of three girls and a software engineer who are transported into a fantasy land found in an App the engineer was developing.
“I came with no expectations,” said Coastwatchers presenter Brat Baader. “This (story) represents a lost chapter in the war that most people did not know about. Our goal here was to get some recognition for the people that fought the war then. Many of them have passed on and those alive are getting on in years so we really wished we could capture these firsthand accounts before they are lost forever.”
Fly Entertainment’s CEO Irene Ang spoke to TV ASIA Plus exclusively after the competition: “We came for the pitch to gain exposure and experience of pitching in a competition, and we never expected to win! We also recognised that this was the right platform to speak to the decision makers that will help us (develop this idea). With the win, we’re hoping that a regional broadcaster can give us the endorsement to produce this.”
Joe Teng of Nada Anime, who won the Children’s Superpitch, said: “I was eager to present our great idea to the most important directors of these international broadcasting companies for children. I believe that a good programme starts from a good story; therefore, I put my major effort to clearly present the story of our project – Naraka Adventure. I really appreciate that ATA provides the chance for us to pitch and it’s great and important to have received feedback and advice.”
Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s Superpitch.
