Cannes – SCRIPPS-owned Food Network Asia has announced new carriage deals across Asia, increasing the number of territories launched in to six.
The announcement was made by Hud Woodle, General Manager, Food Network Asia, at a press dinner reception organised by SCRIPPS at MIPCOM 2012. The following are the three carriages announced.
Malaysia
Already on Astro’s B.Yond HD in Malaysia, Food Network Asia, which was previously a 12-hour branded block (9am – 9pm), made the switch to a full-fledged 24/7 channel beginning October 1, 2012, thereby receiving the single Asian feed in its entirety. The move, Woodle says, is testament to the popularity of the channel among Asians, notably the Malaysian audience.
Taiwan
Already on Dish Asia in Taiwan, Food Network Asia has inked a carriage deal with Multiple System Operator (MSO) CNS, which will carry the channel beginning November 1, 2012. According to Woodle, the channel has will be tested on a soft launch October 12, 2012, and will officially launch November 1, 2012. Woodle says that the timing is right as the network is looking at expanding the channels’ reach through Asia, and with the success of the channel of Dish in Taiwan, Woodle says the timing for a second carriage in the territory is about right.
Mongolia
An IPTV deal has been struck with the country’s IPTV operator Univision, after the network assessed the country and concluded that it has tremendous growth potential. With this deal, Food Network HD Asia has entered its sixth territory in Asia, after Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan.
