Beijing – The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) and the State Internet Information Office in China recently issued a new ruling that requires internet video providers to examine all content before publishing them online.
Video content providers will be held responsible for the videos posted on their websites, according to the circular. Relevant industry associations have also been instructed to step up self-disciplinary efforts regarding video content.
According to the Associated Press, the rule is in response to the rapid growth in online video programmes, some of which SARFT said contain vulgar content, excessive violence or pornography. The rule would protect younger people and promote high-quality online programmes.
