Adding to its reach in Asia, Sundance Channel is now available in Taiwan — the result of the latest distribution license awarded to Rainbow Media by the country’s National Communications Commission (NCC). The channel, which was established by Robert Redford to offer audiences a diverse and engaging selection of films, documentaries and original programs, is already distributed in the region in Singapore and South Korea. Today’s news represents a strengthened offering for Taiwanese operators, who also have access to Sundance Channel sister net, WE tv. Both channels come with proven track records in the United States, where Sundance Channel is available to nearly 40 million households and WE tv reaches more than 77 million homes. “We have been very pleased with the steady growth of Sundance Channel outside of the US, and believe the channel will satisfy a demand for high-quality, independent-minded programming in Taiwan,” said Ed Palluth, Senior Vice President, International Distribution, Rainbow Media Global. Taiwan is home to more than 23 million people, 80% of whom watch cable television.
