Hong Kong – Celestial Pictures has laid off a number of staff, as well as recruiting in a couple of key areas, in a reorganization under September 2009-appointed CEO Ross Pollack. Changes were hardly unexpected and in some respect overdue, as the company had functioned without a CEO since the 2008 departure of William Pfeiffer. The extent of the lay-offs is in the region of 30 percent of a workforce believed to be around 100 strong. No one job function or department has been harder hit than any other, lay-offs have been across the board. But appointments have been made in marketing, theatrical production and distribution and digital media. “As part of our mid-term strategic plan, we recently restructured the organization to streamline operations while adding new divisions and key personnel to focus on value-building activities. We’ve brought in Peter Poon and Rosa Li to lead our theatrical production and distribution division, Andy Chang to head up marketing and hired two executives to focus on digital content development and distribution. Unfortunately, there were staff reductions as part of the restructuring, but we have now positioned each division in an efficient way to focus on growth, the Celestial brand, and the opportunities that digital media will offer,” said Ross Pollack, CEO, Celestial Pictures Limited.
