Singapore – Singapore’s Upside Down Concepts (UDC) and LIC Australia signed an MOU for a documentary slate worth US$4 million Nov 25 at the Asia Factual Forum in Singapore. Under the agreement, the partners will co-produce 20 hours of documentaries shot in locations including Iran and China for the international market over the next year. LIC Australia has imported documentaries into China in the last 13 years and has recently ventured into producing and distributing documentaries internationally. Having developed LIC-UDC projects, LIC’s Beijing studios will be involved in the productions, together with LIC’s German co-production partner, Kick Films of Munich. The first production to roll will be Desert Vet, a six-part series on an Australian vet who uses a radical form of embryo transplant to save endangered animals. Filming will take place in the Himalayas next summer. Other projects include one-hour documentaries with social and historical themes to be filmed in China. The partners are also looking at re-versioning a number of Chinese documentaries for the international marketplace.
