Hong Kong / Singapore – The Amazing Race Asia has returned for a second season (TARA 2), debuting on AXN on Nov 22. TARA 2 sees participants cover more than 50,000 km across four continents in 24 days, up from 36,000 km over two continents last season. Ten teams from Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, including one with a hearing-impaired contestant, are vying for $US100,000 cash. Disney-ABC International Television first licensed the reality-competition format to Sony Pictures Television International’s AXN in October 2005 as the channel’s biggest original production. TARA 1 topped its timeslot among all international cable channels in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines when it premiered on AXN in November 2006. TARA 1 was recently licensed to free-to-air broadcasters ntv7 in Malaysia and TV2 in New Zealand. In Malaysia, the Nov. 4 launch episode was the most-watched program of the night on ntv7 for urban adults 25 and above. In New Zealand, the Nov. 3 premiere topped its timeslot for adults 18-39 and it remains the top series to date on Saturday evenings in the same segment and on all channels. The US version is in its 12th season and airs delayed on AXN every Monday evening at 8pm (SIN) and 9pm (HK).
