Singapore- Korea Broadcasting Systems (KBS) has joined Singapore’s MediaCorp and Japan’s NHK in The Asian Pitch, a pitching event for Asian documentary makers launched in November 2006 to create Asian-made HD documentaries. Park Chung Yong, Chief Producer of KBS, believes the project can provide the groundwork to develop independent production in Asia and help expose Asian content to international media. After the April 30 deadline, MediaCorp’s HD company, Caldecott Productions International worked with the two pubcasters in assessing more than 100 submissions from producers and directors from China, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Korea, New Zealand, Philippines and Singapore. Fifteen proposals have been short-listed and the directors will start pitching their ideas to a panel of executive producers from the three broadcasters in the first pitching session to be held July 19 – 20 in Singapore. Four will be awarded funds to produce their documentaries.
