Sydney/Hong Kong- On April 19 MTV Australia launched MTV Overdrive (mtv.com.au/overdrive), a comprehensive online video on-demand music and entertainment service. The service is now available in 11 countries, joining Canada, Germany, Italy, Holland, France, Denmark, Sweden, Brazil, the UK and the US. MTV Overdrive offers users MTV news updates, artist interviews, music videos, live music performances and original short-form programming. The Oz launch is timed to coincide with the Australian Video Music Awards on April 29. Visitors to the site in Australia will be able to watch exclusive online footage of artists such as Fergie and Pink. Most videos on the advertiser-supported service last from 30 seconds to three minutes. The channel is also streamed to 3G mobile phone services through local carriers. MTV has no plans at this stage to introduce the service in Asia; a spokesperson notes the company already has a successful VoD channel in Korea, BOOMBOX.
