China – Shanghai Media Group (SMG) and Hangzhou-based company Wasu Digital TV have successfully applied for internet TV licences from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), according to Beijing-based firm Marbridge Consulting. The two companies are expected to receive their licences in the near future. Shanghai Media Group is believed to have built up the largest customer base for IPTV services in China, reaching over 2mn subscribers to its service BesTV by the middle of 2009.
