Seoul – Dominant fixed-line phone and internet operator, KT Corp announced it has signed a preliminary deal with France Telecom SA to join forces in developing digital home services in South Korea. Under the deal, the French firm will provide its software technology called SoftAtHome to KT, the local internet operator said in a release, reports Yonhap. The software allows the use of PC Web browsers and contents on IPTV – an area in which KT is placing high hopes. KT explained that digital home service enables a free and easy exchange of content from personal computers, phones and smartphones with fixed and wireless networks. The agreement is part of KT’s latest efforts to form collaboration with global companies in a bid to make inroads into overseas markets. KT added that the partnership with the French telecom company will become a springboard in its efforts to seek new businesses overseas. France Telecom has more than 198 million subscribers in 32 countries.
