Outright Distribution is celebrating the renewal for the third year of its 1st look distribution deal with KEO Films with a slate of international deals rolling in for six of KEO’s original productions for UK broadcasters. River Cottage, the TV, restaurant and publishing franchise has been sold to DR Denmark, SVT Sweden, AFC Asia and Prime NZ, each acquiring all five series, two collection episodes and four one off specials. The Food Channel, New Zealand, has taken the second run on pay TV of River Cottage Spring and River Cottage Autumn and Ananey Israel has taken the Spring, Autumn, Summer’s here and Winter’s On The Way series. Then to Welcome To Lagos , the 3 x 60’ documentary made for BBC2 that takes us on a trip to the slums of Lagos, the fastest growing megacity in the world. The show presents an alternative view of life in the slums as vital, energetic, aspirational places, home to some of the most resourceful, resilient and creative people on the planet. BBC Global Channels has acquired the programme for its Africa channels along with UR Sweden for its educational slots on the SVT channel and SBS Australia. The 9 x 30’ series for Channel 4, Three Hungry Boys has also been acquired by Prime NZ, ABC Australia, Ananey Israel and BBC Global for the Nordic territories. In Three Hungry Boys Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, who also presents River Cottage, has challenged three marine biologists, Trevor, Thom and Tim, to live off the land and holiday for an entire month, without spending a penny. Sticking with a challenging culinary theme, Could You Eat An Elephant? takes a serious look at British food taboos, culinary revulsions and dining preconceptions through an epic culinary journey across Europe, Asia and Africa. From maggot-infested cheese, through to rat, snake and dog to horse, elephant, and finally monkey is tried on the journey. YES Israel, Nat Geo for Italy, Channel One International Russia, DR Denmark and Planete in France have all risen to the challenge. Then to the documentary series Amish – World’s Squarest Teenagers, 4 x 60′ for Channel 4 which aired recently in the UK , has been acquired by TV Norge Norway, NT1 in France and Nat Geo for Italy, Africa, France, Asia, US and Australia & NZ. This series tells the very special story of a young group of Amish who leave their closed community to come to Britain for the first time and meet their young British counterparts. Finally the 1 x 90’ feature documentary Fish! A Japanese Obsession, produced for BBC4, exploring the Japanese people’s passionate relationship to fish has been hooked by YES Israel, Channel One International Russia and YLE in Finland for its Teema channel.
