Hong Kong/Singapore/Sydney – MTV Networks International announced the commissioning of two original reality-based properties produced in the Asia-Pacific and designed for international broadcast – MTV Australia’s Freshwater Blue and MTV Japan’s Shibuhara Girls. Freshwater Blue is a real-life look at the lives of twelve young adults from Sydney’s Northern Beaches during their pivotal and live-changing summer after high school. Produced in a reality-documentary format, the universal stories in Freshwater Blue range from relationships, friendships, peer pressure, drinking and sex – all told through the eyes of a group of friends eager to start their independent adult lives. Created by Toby Yoshimura and Executive Produced by Yoshimura and MTV’s Sophie Johnston, the 8-episode half-hour series is MTV Networks Australia’s first commission of a locally produced reality television concept aimed specifically at 16-29 year old audiences. Freshwater Blue premieres on MTV Australia and MTV New Zealand on 2 December, with subsequent airing across MTV channels in the UK in 2011. Shibuhara Girls is a 12-episode 30-minute series following four young women navigating the competitive and sometimes heartbreaking worlds of the fashion and entertainment industry. Set within Tokyo’s epicentres for youth culture – Shibuya and Harajuku – the real life drama plays out as the cast navigates the demands of friends, boyfriends, industry players and competitors they encounter while chasing their show business dreams. Shibuhara Girls is a MTV Japan production and Alan Swarts, Vice President of Creative and Content, is Executive Producer. Shibuhara Girls will debut on MTV Japan in January 2011, with regional broadcasts planned for Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines and other Asian markets in early 2011.
