Tokyo – NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation’s new president, Masayuki Matsumoto, has officially assumed his post, succeeding Shigeo Fukuchi. Matsumoto said, “In this era of convergence of broadcasting and communication technology, we must enhance our value as a public broadcaster. It is more important than ever for NHK to gain the support of our audiences by providing reliable, enriching and quality programmes that truly build public value.” Matsumoto, 66, was previously the vice chairman of Central Japan Railway Company. He joined the Japanese National Railways, the predecessor of JR Group, in 1967, and held key posts in the Shinkansen operations and administrative divisions before becoming the president of Central Japan Railway in 2004. He was appointed the vice chairman of the company last year.
