Global Television will help bring the upcoming YouTube Symphony Orchestra from the Sydney Opera House live to audiences around the world. Global has been engaged by the broadcast event producers, Whatever Entertainment Group, to provide facilities and crew for the internet broadcasts that begin on March 16 and culminate with the YouTube Symphony Orchestra’s live performance on March 20 and live-streamed to YouTube. In a technically challenging production, Global Television will position 19 HD cameras around the Opera House as well as at several Harbourside locations. A total of six camera angles will be available to the live viewing audience. Ean Thorley, Executive Producer of Whatever Entertainment, said: “Global Television’s track record in delivering major live outside broadcasts is internationally recognised, as is its ability to accommodate technically demanding briefs.” Global Television’s General Manager, Marc Segar, said: “Global is proud to be part of an event that showcases how seamlessly HD internet protocol-based television can be delivered and underscores just how quickly this format is being embraced internationally.” In 2009, YouTube assembled an orchestra of 96 musicians from 30 countries at a sell-out concert from New York’s Carnegie Hall that was also streamed live on YouTube.
