Kuala Lumpur – Animasia Studio Sdn Bhd, an MSC Malaysia Company, has secured a major co-production arrangement with Zhejiang Zhongnan Animation – or ZN Animation – one of China’s largest animation producers, for the new series My Little Brother is the Monkey King. The MOU for the 52 x 11min series was concluded at the 7th China International Cartoon & Animation Festival (CICAF) in China’s Hangzhou City. Inspired by China’s famous Journey To The West, Monkey King gives new life and crazy ideas to the classic mythological characters. The series is set in the modern day and centres around an extraordinary brother and sister who have secret identities and super powers. Kamil Othman, vice president of Creative Multimedia Department, Multimedia Development Corporation said, “This co-production venture is one of the milestones which we are looking for as a sign of the maturity and confidence in our Malaysian companies to go global. Working with Zhongnan Animation will provide Animasia with yet another breakthrough in reaching global standards.” Monkey King was conceptualized by the team at Animasia Studio based in Kuala Lumpur, and where the development of the story and design will be carried out. Both studios will share resources and expertise to execute the production of the series. The production is estimated to cost US$5.2 million.
