ABS-CBN recently concluded its top-rating series Bridges of Love to impressive numbers and kept its stronghold of the primetime television slot through its replacement, the hit romantic drama, On the Wings of Love. Bridges of Love ended on a high note hitting 26.9% in TV rating across the country on 7 August, beating its rival programme which only rated at 12%. Filipino fans not only watched the finale dubbed as “The Ultimate Battle for Love” on their small screens, but also raved about it online as the show conquered top Twitter trends the same night.
On its final episode, the much-awaited resolution between brothers Carlos (Avelino) and Gael (Rosales) who are battling for the affection of the same girl, Mia (Salvador), finally happened. Almost at the expense of their own lives, the two caught the same bullet just to save the girl they both love.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN achieved immediate success with its replacement for the widely-followed sibling rivalry drama, when “On The Wings of Love,” debuted strongly with a national TV rating of 22.1% versus its closest contender with only 12.7% last August 10. The story between a simple teenage girl with an American dream and a boy living his American life instantly captured audiences with its feel-good combination of comedy and romantic drama.
This newly launched series stars two of the Philippines’ hottest teen stars, James Reid and Nadine Lustre, with many scenes shot on location in San Franciso, California. The two’s cult following among fans set Twitter on fire during its pilot telecast and garnered over 1.4 million tweets, making it one of the top trending topics worldwide.
“On the Wings of Love” tells the story of Leah (Lustre), an optimistic girl who embarks to the United States to help provide for her family. With her tourist visa expiring, the only way she can think of to get a green card and work legally in the U.S.A. is to marry an American citizen. Clark (Reid), a hardworking but financially-challenged Fil-American, enters into an arranged marriage with her in exchange for a big amount of money he badly needs to pay off a loan shark. How will Clark and Leah’s make-believe marriage change their entire lives and affect their dreams? What will they do when they actually find themselves falling in love with each other in this charade?
