CNN iReport, the network’s participatory news community, celebrates its fifth birthday today, commemorating the anniversary in different locations all over the world. The initiative has grown into a global force, receiving a submission from every country on the planet with an average of 2.4 million unique users each month through June 2011, according to ComScore. iReport is organizing the ultimate birthday party via http://meetup.com/CNNiReport, with iReporters from more than 50 cities all over the globe, from New York and Hong Kong to Maha Nuwara in Sri Lanka. Also in August, CNN will feature the CNN iReport Top Five, looking back at some of the platform’s most significant moments and submissions. Jim Walton, President of CNN Worldwide, said, “Not one day goes by that CNN iReporters don’t display an impassioned point of view for the community they helped to create along with CNN.” Later this year, CNN will unveil a newly imagined site and platform for iReport.
