Hong Kong – Celestial Pictures took its first step into the gaming business today by launching the first-ever game application for a Chinese movie. It was developed with leading independent Chinese game developer, Art Coding. Available from today, My Kingdom Game can be played via the game’s website or downloaded for free from Apple’s iTunes store (for iPhones and iPod Touches. An iPad compatible version will be released later). Through a simple, casual rhythm-based game, the tightly-woven tale of two brothers’ quest for fame, love and revenge is unveiled. Ross Pollack, CEO, Celestial Pictures, explained to TV ASIA Plus that Celestial is very keen on exploring this digital space and bringing content in new ways to new audiences. “Gameplay does this. It crosses the line between technology and content, and delivers an interactive experience to consumers.” Pollack added that the game application is part of a learning process in being innovative. He said, “For us, it was also about ‘How do we learn, how do we experiment? How do we have a bit of fun in this space we could use?’” Pollack also revealed the company has plans to roll out more such content based on its Shaw Brothers Film Library in the near future. My Kingdom is the first Celestial theatrical release in six years and is expected to be released in Asia on 9 September.
