London– BBC Worldwide announced new format sales ahead of MIPCOM next month. The Great Bake Off format sold to PRO TV in Romania, Street Doctor sold to SVT in Sweden, and TV2 in Denmark have commissioned a second series of A Question of Sport.
With a peak audience of 5.2 million viewers for its premiere episode, You’re Back in the Room ranks as the UK’s highest rated new entertainment launch this year so far. The format has already been licensed by BBC Worldwide to RTL in Netherlands and W9 in France and ITV recently commissioned the UK show for a second series for another 4 x 60’ run.
A deal with PRO TV in Romania brings the total format sales of The Great Bake Off to 21 countries; PRO TV will produce the popular entertainment show and is set to go out on Saturday night prime time this fall. A Love Productions format, this hugely entertaining nationwide search to find and crown the best amateur baker is a big hit with international audiences from Australia and France to South Africa and Ukraine.
A Question of Sport has been re-commissioned by Danish broadcaster TV2 Sports, after the first series aired to nearly double the slot average for the channel. TV2 Sports will produce 20 x 30’ episodes of the popular entertainment format.
Street Doctor has sold to SVT in Sweden who will produce 8 x 60’ episodes of this innovative format. Taking the anxiety out of visiting the surgery, Street Doctor, takes four doctors onto the country’s streets to offer their skills and expertise to anyone who needs it.
BBC Worldwide will present a total of 12 new formats to international buyers at MIPCOM, including In One in a 1000, The People’s Strictly, We’re Gonna Win the Cup, Mud, Sweat and Gears. Heading up the scripted formats slate is the re-launch of The Office. BBC Worldwide recently picked up the rights to over 100 scripts from the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning US version, extending the number of episodes available to be sold as a format from 14 to 201.
