Hong Kong – Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has announced its joint-venture with production company Huaso Productions to co-produce a local version of the dance competition format, Dancing Nation (10 x 60’), for CCTV in China.
The light entertainment series is slated to premiere in February on CCTV. Supported by local governments, the show will feature charity projects and people from different communities across the country.
“Dancing is a universal language that transcends all cultural barriers,” said Mary Chan, vice president, production, Asia-Pacific, SPT. “Combining a sense of community with good will, Dancing Nation will spark audience participation and engage viewers across the entire region. The new series further illustrates formats as an excellent source of successful programming that’s culturally relevant, especially in Asia-Pacific.”
Dancing Nation is a dance competition where teams representing their cities perform in a collective effort to raise money for local charities and organisations. The format illustrates how people can come together to dance for a worthy cause. Local versions of Dancing Nation have also been produced in Brazil, Ecuador and Argentina.
