ABS-CBN International Distribution has sold approximately 40% of its content since 2000 to eleven Asian countries including Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong Indonesia, Korea, Myanmar, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. This enables non-Filipino, Asian viewers to enjoy Filipino programmes on their own television screens.
ABS-CBN says Malaysia is the top buyer of its dramas. More than 3,000 hours of content have been sold to Malaysian TV networks Astro Bella and TV3 since 2000. Magkaribal, Prinsesa ng Banyera,Dahil May Isang Ikaw, Impostor, Imortal, Budoy and Iisa Pa Lamang were some of the titles sold to Astro Bella, Malaysia’s first in-house pay-TV channel for telenovelas.
TV3, Malaysia’s first commercial television station, has bought 95 hours of content from ABS-CBN through Malaysia’s leading integrated media investment group, Media Prima. One of the shows it has acquired is Mara Clara, which proved to be a big hit during its run on TV3 after it successfully gained an average of 1.5 million viewers. The Malaysian network is set to air My Girl this month and is expressing an interest to acquire My Binondo Girl and Be Careful with My Heart.
ABS-CBN has sold 28 canned shows to Cambodian TV channels capped by the recent landmark deal made with Cambodian Television Network (CTN) to localise the hit primetime series Pangako Sa ’Yo by this year.
