Timeline Television has specified Custom Consoles Module-R control room desks for integration into its Ealing Broadcast Centre in west London. Three rows of Module-R desks have been selected for a production control room that will be assigned to outside broadcast coverage of sports events for customers such as Racing TV.
“Custom Consoles Module-R desks have given us good service over the years and were the natural choice for this new expansion,” comments Daniel McDonnell, Timeline founder and CEO. “Our operators find the desks comfortable to work with and our technicians appreciate the easy front and rear access to the equipment ports and cable ducts on the rare occasions they need to perform system maintenance or reconfiguration. Module-R allows us define the combination of features we need prior to initial order. We also gain the freedom to make substantial changes to the desk structure if necessary to accommodate future changes in workflow.”
“All three desks are of rectangular design and positioned in front, centre and rear locations,” adds Bradley Woollett, EBC Head of Engineering. “Largest of the trio is the front desk which comprises 11 bays and is equipped for use by three operators. A vision mixer is integrated into bays 2-4. Additional features include five 3U high desktop equipment pods and two 2U high pods. Video monitor screens are located at eye height on adjustable arms secured to mounting positions along the rear of the desk. The centre and rear desks are each eight bays in width and again designed for use by up to three operators. Each incorporates three desktop equipment pods of 3U height plus a 22 inch video monitor at eye height above each bay. The rear desk differs slightly from the centre desk in having mounting capacity for two video monitors across bays 7 and 8, located one above the other.”
All three desks are fitted with birch ply worktops with dark grey Marmoleum front and rear worktops, black PVC edging and grey side panels. The front desk is supported by six silver-anodised extruded aluminium legs with concealed internal cable ducting and black-painted floor skids. The centre and rear desks have four legs in the same style.
“This order confirms the ongoing popularity of Module-R which continues to be widely chosen by programme production companies, broadcasters and system integrators,” adds Neil Reed, Custom Consoles Managing Director. “We are very pleased to have been chosen to play a continuing role in the success of the Ealing Broadcast Centre.”
