TVU Networks, the global leader in IP- and cloud-based live video solutions, announced today that their products enabled TikTok’s sister app, Douyin, to broadcast the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ New Year’s Science Speech Series to millions of Chinese viewers from December 29 to 31, 2021. Sponsored by the Beijing Science and Technology Association and the Beijing Radio and Television Bureau, the multi-day celebration included stories and speeches from academicians and researchers highlighting Beijing’s key scientific achievements, current technological and scientific innovations, and cross-border collaborations.
The New Year’s event was part of an ongoing partnership between the Communications Bureau and Institute of Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and ByteDance-owned Douyin to celebrate the nation’s commitment to scientific renaissance. To ensure the live event’s success despite strict COVID-19 restrictions, Douyin selected TVU Networks’ live broadcast solutions: TVU One mobile transmitter, TVU server, and the TVU Producer cloud-based production platform. This integrated platform enabled real-time, high-quality video transmission of the three-day event, bringing the speakers and their topics to life for Chinese viewers.
Organizers invited well-known media personalities Wang Xuechun from China Central Television (CCTV) and Li Jie from Beijing Media Network (BTV) to serve as hosts to the eleven scientists, the Old Scientist Choir from Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Material Spirit Band from the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Beijing Angelic Choir. Topics ranged from the personal stories behind major scientific achievements to Beijing’s contributions to science and technology to the possibility of alien life in the universe.
TVU’s cloud-based solutions allowed the event’s producers to seamlessly transmit five video channels, offering multi-camera perspectives of the stage, speaker, and audience. The TVU One mobile transmitters sent the channels to the TVU server for recording and broadcasting. Once on the server, the team used the TVU Producer platform to broadcast the event to millions of Chinese viewers around the world with zero latency, live audience interactions, high-quality graphics, advanced audio mixing, instant replays and slow motion, and professional transitions.
TVU Networks helps customers send the right story at the right time. Using TVU Producer, Douyin was able to successfully distribute the live video streams to multiple broadcasting channels, websites, and social media sites, including CCTV, BTV, China Youth Daily, People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Online, Science.com, China Science Expo, Toutiao Science, Watermelon Video, WeChat, Weibo, Bilibili, Xiaohongshu, Zhihu, and Baijiahao.
TVU’s unique pay-as-you-go model includes equipment rental, data services, and even professional production teams, making high-quality event broadcasting possible for every budget.
