The Ministry of Human Resource Development will soon launch 50 DTH educational channels, according to a report by The Times of India,which added that the channels will be more interactive, and  will air programmes that will be live and not pre-recorded. The number of channels will later be increased to 1,000, added the report.

According to the Indian Express, the channels will be free to air, with content from IITs, Central Universities and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The report added that the Ministry will sign an MoU with Prasar Bharti which will hold the broadcasting licence.
