Tokyo – NHK will exhibit its latest broadcasting technologies, 8K (Super Hi-Vision) and NHK Hybridcast, at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) General Assembly in Hanoi, Vietnam, starting from October 23, 2013.

The next-generation 8K broadcasting media makes use of ultra-high definition images consisting of 33 million pixels – which is 16 times that of current Hi-Vision technology – combined with a 22.2 multichannel 3D sound system.

Super Hi-Vision gives viewers the feeling of being at the event broadcast on television. NHK aims to begin test broadcasts of this technology in the same year as the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.

NHK Hybridcast is a new service that brings together broadcasting and communications, enabling broadcast digital TV to be integrated with internet based content to create a variety of services. NHK Hybridcast started in Japan in September 2013.

The exhibition will be held at “Melia Hanoi” Hotel from October 23 to 29.

Additionally, NHK will broadcast globally through its NHK WORLD channel the “ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest” which was held in August 2013. The programme will be aired on October 27 and 28.
