Ferly, the international licensing and animation studio and Wild Child Animation, the Scottish animation studio, have signed comedians Larry Dean (Live at the Apollo (BBC2), Michael McIntyre’s Big Show (BBC1), and Mock the Week), Erika Ehler, and Ed Night to join the writing team for new animated adult comedy series, Butthole Biscuits. The team will be headed up by Paul Alexander (My Hero, Red Dwarf).
The animated series follows a bunch of broken and unwanted biscuits left behind at the bottom of the biscuit tin. Told through the eyes of these rejected treats the series takes a critical look at society all whilst following their adventures as the biscuits decide to break out and go hunting for kicks rather going stale by sitting around doing nothing.
Head writer on Butthole Biscuits, Paul Alexander has written on the RTS Award-winning My Parents Are Aliens (CiTV), Emmy Award-winning Red Dwarf (BBC) and BAFTA-winning Revenge Files of Alistair Fury (CBBC), and his animation credits include Horrid Henry (CITV), Groove High (Disney). For Dreamworks he co-created the animated comedy series Neighbors from Hell (Apple TV+).
Larry Dean has been nominated for both Best Newcomer and Best Comedy Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards (formerly Perrier Awards) and has performed multiple critically acclaimed, award-winning stand up shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on tour across the UK and the world.
Erika Ehler has served as a writer for Charlie Brooker’s ‘Death to 2020’, Never Mind the Buzzcocks (SkyOne), and Have I Got News for You (BBC1). Ed Night has had sold-out runs at his 2018 and 2019 Edinburgh shows and now hosts BBC Radio1’s ‘Ed and Lauren’ show. He was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2017 and has also been seen on E4, BBC3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC 5 Live.
Joonas Rissanen, Co-Founder, VP, Creative, Ferly, says, “These comedians and writers have a whole world of biscuity adventure to explore. With a concept like this, you can’t play it safe, that’s why we have picked a writing team from the UK comedy circuit which is daring enough to take it where it needs to go. Having Paul Alexander as the chief writer is like having the very best artisan biscuit, he’s multi-layered, refined and makes everyone feel special. We know he will use all his experience to expertly steer this fantastic bunch of comedians. The Perrier awards may have changed the name, but these guys should be up for the derriere awards for agreeing to join our team for Butthole Biscuits.”
Sueann Rochester, Managing Director of Wild Child Animation, comments: “For Butthole Biscuits we’ve mixed together with a brilliant team of veteran writing talent with some of the hottest new comedians on the UK circuit, with great results. Just as we hoped, they’re having loads of fun bouncing off each other creating some hilarious content.
