StarHub TV will be airing The Annual Golden Horse Awards on E City on November 23. This year, the Awards will be held at Taipei Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
In its 50th year, The Golden Horse Awards is one of the most prestigious film awards for Mandarin movies. Since its inception in 1962, the awards have given recognition to numerous excellent filmmakers and is considered the highest accolade for all Chinese-language filmmakers and artistes from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and other Chinese-speaking countries.
The Grandmaster leads with 11 nominations, while Ilo Ilo, directed by home grown director Anthony Chen, received six nominations.
Best Leading Actor category nominees include Tony Leung Chiu Wai for his role in The Grandmaster, Tony Leung Ka Fai for Cold War, Nick Cheung for Unbeatable, Lee Kang Sheng for Stray Dogs and Jimmy Wang for Soul. Best Leading Actress nominees include Shu Qi for her role in Journey to the West, Zhang Ziyi for The Grandmaster, Gwei Lun-Mei for Christmas Rose and Cherry Ngan for The Way We Dance.
Five-time Golden Horse winner Maggie Cheung is appointed as the Festival Ambassador. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Cheung starred in a one-minute trailer that looks back at the history of Chinese-language films and towards a more challenging future.
