Toronto – Angus Macfadyen (Turn, Braveheart) is set to recur in Rosetta Media and Buffalo Gal Pictures’ original 22-episode drama, The Pinkertons, an action-adventure detective series that draws on the real cases of Pinkerton Detective Agency founder Allan Pinkerton (Macfadyen), his son, William, and America’s first female detective, Kate Warne, as they solve crimes throughout the “Wild West” of the 1860s (Pinkerton is known for revolutionising detective work by developing use of surveillance, undercover work and the mug shot). Pre-production has begun in Winnipeg and Toronto.
The Pinkertons is created by Kevin Abrams (via his company Alpine Labs) and Adam Moore, who teamed to write the pilot. It is executive produced by Suzanne Berger, President of Rosetta Media, and Phyllis Laing, President of Buffalo Gal Pictures. Abrams and Moore also serve as executive producers and writers, alongside Canadian showrunners and executive producers Larry Lalonde and Phil Bedard (Murdoch Mysteries). Amuse Group USA – a subsidiary of a leading Japanese entertainment company Amuse, Inc. – is also co-financing the project.
The series will premiere in fall 2014 in first-run syndication in the U.S., where it has been cleared in over 85% of the country by Rohrs Media Group on station groups including Tribune, Weigel, Hearst, LIN, Meredith, Cox and the CW PLUS.
Zodiak Rights, the international distribution arm of Zodiak Media, will handle the series’ international distribution. Zodiak Rights represents a catalogue of over 20,000 hours of high quality content across all genres of programming, including iEmmy award-winning series The Returned, the Millennium Trilogy, and Being Human. Zodiak will launch The Pinkertons this October at MIPCOM.
“We are thrilled to have Angus Macfadyen playing the part of Allan Pinkerton; he brings an authentic, energetic sensibility to this iconic character,” says Berger.
“Our series captures a time when people were living outside the law and the Pinkerton Detective Agency filled that void,” says Laing. “We’re delighted to be producing this series in Winnipeg.”
Caroline Torrance, Head of Scripted, Zodiak Rights, adds, “We are thrilled to represent this exciting series which has all the markings of a huge hit worldwide.”
