Mandarin kids channel Miao Mi launched in the Philippines

July 13, 2018 by TVA Editor

HONG KONG – Celestial Tiger Entertainment, operator of the largest bouquet of pan-Asian channels dedicated to Asian entertainment, has announced the first foray of its kids channel Miao Mi in the Philippines on SKYcable.

Miao Mi, the Mandarin edutainment channel created for preschool kids across Asia, is now launched on SKYcable’s Kids Pack 1, Kids Pack 2 and Family Pack through SKY Select.

“We are delighted to introduce Miao Mi in the Philippines with SKYcable. Western entertainment programmes are the norm among Pinoy kids, hence there is a growing demand among parents in the Philippines looking for relevant alternatives that entertain children from a unique Asian perspective,” said Ofanny Choi, Executive Vice President, TV Networks, Celestial Tiger Entertainment.

“We believe Miao Mi, with its carefully curated programmes, can address an important gap in the preschool educational market,” she added.

Meanwhile, SKY Business Unit Head of Consumer Product Group Claudia Suarez said: “We welcome Miao Mi as part of our growing line of kids’ edutainment channels to serve the needs of the growing Chinese and Fil-Chinese families in the Philippines.”

Targeted at children aged 3 to 6, Miao Mi aims to help kids learn Mandarin in a fun and engaging way.  The programming mix includes first and exclusive animated and live-action series, as well as family movies.  These programmes come from leading children’s content providers, primarily from China, Korea and Japan, and are all dubbed in Mandarin.

Miao Mi also features its own shows including Miao Mi Classroom, which uses animated flash cards and catchy songs to facilitate Mandarin language-learning, and Write with Miao Mi, which helps kids learn to write basic Chinese characters.

Some of the first and exclusive programmes premiering on Miao Mi include: Duda & Dada, produced by Korea’s preeminent educational broadcaster EBS, a series centered on the adventures of an adorable mole with his curious explorer friend; and T-Guardians, a Chinese animated fantasy-adventure movie about a group of toys stepping into the digital world in an attempt to save their owner. The movie gained box office of RMB30 million in China.

“The channel’s addition to SKY’s line-up opens opportunities for Filipino children to be exposed to other cultures, especially now that countries are becoming a part of a huge global community,” SKY Programming and Airtime Business Head James Dumlao said.

Miao Mi is accessible on channel 118 in Mega Manila, channel 108 in regional areas, and SKY’s OTT platform SKY on demand in the Philippines.
