Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific announced plans to launch Australia’s only children’s channel dedicated solely to education for primary school aged kids.
Discovery Kids lets children explore their awesome world and ignites their natural curiosity by providing content that is fun and educational. It offers our young viewers a world of endless possibilities, fascinating insights and real life young heroes to take them on adventures around the globe – it’s positive, confident, adventurous, transformative and above all fun: Smart Fun!
“We’re thrilled to be launching this unique channel to Foxtel subscribers,” said Mandy Pattinson, Executive Vice President and General Manager, ANZ & Pacific Islands “With programming pillars inspired by key learning areas of the Australian Curriculum, Discovery Kids stimulates learning and imagination for a new generation of audiences, and provides a safe and enriching environment that parents can trust.”
Discovery Kids will target primary school children aged 6-12 as well as encourage co-viewing with parents and families. As a result of research which reveals that viewing video content with captioning can help strengthen literacy skills and vocabulary development in young readers, Discovery Kids will be 100% closed captioned highlighting a strong commitment to further enhancing the educational programming offering.
Richard Freudenstein, Foxtel Chief Executive, said, “We’re delighted to grow our partnership with Discovery Networks who have a long history of creating compelling educational programming that keeps people informed with insightful and entertaining material. Discovery Kids is a fantastic and unique addition to our channel line-up, and broadens our already great offering in this genre.”
Discovery Kids will launch on Foxtel on November 3 as part of the Kids General Entertainment pack. It will include a variety of Australian television premieres focusing on topics such as Science & Technology, Nature, Wildlife and Creative Arts, as well as the channel’s first local production to be announced soon.
