Singapore – Ying Group has successfully sold the Groom My Room series and format to Vietnam’s HTV3, a children’s edutainment channel owned by Purpose Media. It is the first Singapore kids TV format to be sold to Vietnam.
The hit DIY series has been one of Singapore’s most beloved kids’ shows, running for nine seasons from 2001 – 2015 on Mediacorp. Created by The Moving Visuals Co., the series has been supported by Singapore’s public service broadcasting funds, now under the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). On Groom My Room, kids are given the chance to create the bedroom of their dreams. In each show, one lucky kid transforms his room from boring to eye-popping! It’s hard work though – they must design it, choose the furniture, and make sure everything gets done within the time limit and budget.
The format empowers, encourages and inspires kids to take initiative and to be creative. They get to call the shots. The licensing of Groom My Room coincided with the launch of the channel’s new brand name, HTV3 – Dreams TV.
Cam Nguyen, HTV3’s Head of Programming said, “At HTV3, our core values are Learn Love Laugh. This TV show fits all three mantras.” Thanh Bui, CEO said, “At Purpose Media, we were excited about the Groom My Room format due to its edutainment value to our young viewers. It’s the perfect fit to our channel.” HTV3 have also acquired 23 x 30 min episodes from Seasons 8 and 9 of the original Groom My Room series. The Vietnamese version of the format starts production in early 2018, and will be called “Dream Rooms” (căn phòng mơ ước). We are very much looking forward to seeing it.
