Asia Pacific – Asia’s leading content and media company CJ E&M is proud to announce the promotion of Sebastian Kim as Managing Director of CJ E&M HK, to cope with the group’s major development in Southeast Asia after their huge success in Korea.
Kim, based in CJ E&M’s regional office in Hong Kong, will be overseeing CJ E&M HK’s media business in Southeast Asia including tvN Asia and tvN Movies. Kim holds a Master of Business Administration from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Bachelor of Art in History from Sogang University in South Korea; and is the founding member of the Hong Kong office since 2009. He is currently the head of the company, before that he was the head of Distribution and Business Development. With his profound understanding of the company and longtime experience in the industry, Kim will lead the company to a greater height of success in the regional media business.
Former head of the Company, Samey Lee, steps up to lead CJ Blue Corp in Vietnam. CJ E&M acquired Blue Group in 2016, a top 3 content production/advertising agency in Vietnam, and intends to leverage this development towards active penetration into the Vietnamese contents market. CJ E&M became the first foreign company to acquire a local media company in Vietnam.
Other people movement includes the role expansion of Anne Chan. In addition to her current responsibilities as COO of CJ E&M HK, Chan is taking up a new role as Asia Head of Global Sales, covering content, digital and festival products including MAMA and KCON. Chan reports to both Sebastian Kim and Seon Cho, Head of Global Sales in CJ E&M.
“As Korean content continues to capture fandom of Asian viewers, it is important that CJ E&M leads and expands the Korean entertainment genre,” said Kim. “To cope with the upcoming multi-platform content world, CJ E&M will continue to partner with all Pay TV and digital OTT players to deliver the best Korean entertainment.”
Following the strong ratings from The Bride of Habaek, the latest tvN Asia 24-hour express drama — Live Up To Your Name aired its finale earlier and the drama series has been topping viewership rating charts in Singapore since premiere in August: its finale premiere broadcast ranked No. 1 among all 114 Pay TV channels in Singapore and achieved a clean sweep of No. 1 in A20-49 (target audience) and other age groups, representing a wide range of audience tuning in to the drama. This also shows a successful move of the channel by launching local dedicated feed in Singapore since June.
