Winner of the 2015 International Emmy for Best Telenovela, Hidden Truths has now reached Macedonia. With a modern storyline and current subject, the telenovela marks the beginning of a relationship between Globo and Kanal 5, thus expanding the Brazilian company’s reach into Eastern Europe.
The plot, which has already been licensed to more than 40 countries (including Armenia), is being aired by the network since May 15, in the late primetime slot, around 11 p.m., with Macedonian subtitles. Kanal 5 is an open network and its schedule includes journalism, sports and drama programming geared towards the male audience.
To invest in its reach to other players from the region, Globo will participate on the NATPE Budapest between June 19 and 22, in the VB 22, with a large production catalog, that included telenovelas, series, miniseries and movies.
‘Hidden Truths’ explores the boundaries between obsession, money, and pleasure, depicting the grimy underworld disguised under the luxury and glamour of the fashion industry. The protagonist, Arlete (Camila Queiroz), is a young woman who dreams of being a model. In pursuit of her dream, she eventually gets caught up in a prostitution ring and meets Alex (Rodrigo Lombardi, ‘India – A Love story’), a powerful and obsessive businessman. In a sudden turn of events, he marries the girl’s mother just to be closer to her.
With a high-quality production, thought-provoking stories, luxurious sets and a cast packed with major stars, ‘Hidden Truths’ garners fans wherever it goes. While it was originally aired in Brazil, the telenovela reached more than 18 million viewers and was also a hit on social media. On the day the last episode was aired, the plot registered about 1 million online comments from the audience that was following the story’s outcome.
