Fred Media will unleash the hit series, The Recruit at the Sported Miami content market. The Series, produced by McGuire Media’s production company Jam TV, will also be unveiled in April at MIPTV. Fred Media General Manager Michael Aldrich is excited by the challenge of taking Australia’s national football code beyond our shores to an international market.
“Even if you haven’t seen a game of Australian Rules Football , the true value of this series lies in the characters and their inspirational stories,” said Mr Aldrich
The Recruit follows fifteen athletes who failed to be selected in the national draft and provides them with one last chance to fulfill their ambitions. There are several high profile athletes who make cameo appearances in the show, including cricket legend Shane Warne, and Olympic heroes Ian Thorpe and Cathy Freeman.
The series made history in Australian Television, where the sport’s governing body, The AFL, changed its rules in order to offer a guaranteed professional contract to the winner. The final episode of the show was a properly constituted AFL Draft event, with all 18 Clubs in attendance to select the winner.
According to Mr Aldrich, “Everyone will have a favourite recruit and be able to follow their progress towards the big time.”
The Recruit has been one of the highest rating series on Fox 8 Australia. It was Pay TV’s number one entertainment show for 10 consecutive weeks, and has won both the ASTRA Award for best reality show and the Australian Sports Commission’s prestigious Media Award.
Fred Media distributes its programs to more than 180 countries and territories worldwide.
