Munich – Arrow International has licensed the rights to its hit crime scripted format The Last Cop to Nippon Television Network Corporation (Nippon TV) for a major new theatrical feature. The Last Cop The Movie (working title) is currently in pre-production and will be theatrically released across Japan in May 2017.
The film will feature the stars of the current hit Nippon TV and Hulu television version of the cop show, Toshiaki Karasawa and Masataka Kubota. Season Two of The Last Cop premiered on 8 October 2016 on Hulu Japan and Nippon TV to ratings and critical acclaim, following the Season One launch in June 2015 that became the number one program for increasing subscriber numbers to the Hulu platform.
Henrik Pabst, Red Arrow International, said: “For The Last Cop Japan to be getting a feature film version is testament to the huge success of the show in Japan, and the appetite for this type of sharp-witted, action-packed programming. We are delighted to see the format travel so extensively around the world and prove such a hit.”
In The Last Cop, a detective is seriously injured during a mission and ends up in coma. He wakes up over two decades later to a modern world that has completely changed. As he struggles to come to terms with his new life, he embarks on an unstoppable mission to find out who put him in a coma and bring them to justice.
This high-octane and action-packed crime procedural is based on the hit German series Der Letzte Bulle – SAT.1’s most successful crime series ever. Remake adaptations include French version Falco, now in its fourth season on TF1 in France; a record-breaking production for Channel 5 Russia; and new productions in the Czech Republic and Estonia. The Last Cop won Best Scripted Format at this year’s 2016 International Format Awards at MIPTV in Cannes.
