Keshet International (KI) and Amazon announced a content licensing deal for the hit premium drama series The A Word. Amazon Prime Video will be the exclusive premium subscription streaming home for The A Word. Prime members in the U.S. will be able to watch via the Amazon Video app on TVs, connected devices including Fire TV and mobile devices or online at www.amazon.com/PrimeVideo—in addition to streaming, Prime members will also be able to download episodes of the series on iPads, iPhones, Android phones and tablets and Fire tablets for offline viewing.
Keren Shahar, COO KI and President Distribution said, “We are delighted that The A Word has been so well received. The fact that Amazon has acquired SVOD rights to both seasons of the series is a testament to its quality, appeal and performance to date – it seems we’re not the only ones who can’t wait to see the second season unfold.”
Season one of The A Word was a standout success, attracting a consolidated average audience of 5.5 million and a 22% share on BBC One. The first series was also the subject of much critical acclaim in the US where it aired on Sundance TV, which is also committed to the much anticipated second season. The A Word is a co-production between Fifty Fathoms Productions and Keshet UK.
It is written by BAFTA winner and Golden Globe nominee Peter Bowker (Marvellous, Blackpool) and directed by Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty, Rev). The A Word based on Keshet’s original series Yellow Peppers, which was created and written by Keren Margalit. The deal was negotiated by KI and Chris Rice, Partner at WME, which represents KI in the US.
